PrescribeITTM is part of Canada’s action plan on the opioid crisis and it enables the safe and secure transmission of prescriptions.
Canada Health Infoway is working with Health Canada, the provinces and territories, and industry stakeholders to operate and maintain PrescribeITTM, a national e-prescribing service. PrescribeITTM will be available across the country enabling prescribers to electronically transmit a prescription to a patient’s pharmacy of choice.
Electronic prescribing (e-prescribing) through PrescribeITTM helps reduce prescription fraud and the potential for abuse of prescription medications. PrescribeITTM increases patient safety through the reduction of handwritten prescriptions and transcribing errors. PrescribeITTM also helps improve health outcomes by increasing medication adherence, ensuring full prescription data is available through jurisdictional drug information systems (both prescribed and dispensed), which can help inform important health policy decisions.
